Mangaluru: One of the 3 arrested suspects in the Kotekaru Agricultural Co-operative Society robbery case was shot and injured by police on January 21 when he attempted to escape custody during a spot inspection near Alankaru Gudde, K.C. Road, police said.
According to a press note released by the police, Kannan Mani (36), a resident of Tilak Nagar, Chembur, Mumbai, was among three suspects apprehended in connection with the robbery reported on 17th January 2025. Mani had been brought to Mangaluru for questioning.
During a site inspection led by Ullal Police Inspector Shri Balakrishna H.N. and the investigation team, Mani allegedly attempted to flee. He reportedly attacked escorting personnel, Anjanappa and Nithin, with a broken beer bottle and tried to stab the investigation officer. Despite a warning shot fired in the air by a CCB unit Police Inspector, Mani continued his assault and made an attempt to escape.
In response, the CCB Police Inspector fired at Mani’s leg, subduing him. The injured suspect, along with three injured police personnel, was immediately rushed to Deralakatte Yenepoya Hospital for treatment.
The incident has been registered as a case at Ullal Police Station, and an investigation is ongoing.
