A man shot dead his wife before consuming poison and ending his own life in Kodimajalu, Kemraje village of Sullia Taluk on Friday, January 17 night.

The deceased are identified as Ramachandra Gowda, alias Chandra (54), a farmer and his wife, Vinoda (43).

Reportedly, Ramachandra had returned home in an inebriated state on the day of the incident. After having dinner he picked up a quarrel with his wife and son over a minor issue. The argument escalated and Ramachandra began using abusive language.

In the heat of the moment, Ramachandra aimed his licensed gun at his elder son, Prashant. Vinoda attempted to intervene and snatch the gun away from him. However, Ramachandra fired the gun causing her to collapse and die on the spot.

Following his wife’s death, Ramachandra consumed a chemical used for rubber processing, leading to his death.

A case has been registered at the Sullia police station based on Prashant’s statement. The police rushed to the scene, conducted an investigation, and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.
