In the context of infinite space and time, perspectives shift drastically. When viewed within a limited scope of time, things may appear significant. However, within the expanse of eternity, they seem negligible. Similarly, an airplane appears massive up close, but from a great height, it looks like a small speck.
Human life, spanning 50, 60, or even 80 years, might seem substantial within a short timeframe. Yet, in the grand scale of infinite time, even a century becomes a mere point. Likewise, the Earth, amidst the vastness of infinite space, is smaller than a mustard seed. Within this perspective, regions like Udupi, Mangaluru, or even Karnataka hold no measurable significance.
Locally, people may perceive themselves as grand, but stepping outside their small circles reveals their true insignificance. Proximity fosters an illusion of greatness, while distance provides a humbling view. This is why local pride can breed arrogance, whereas a broader perspective fosters humility.
The grandeur of objects is relative to their context. For instance, the phrase “dūratḥ parvatḥ ramyaḥ” (mountains appear beautiful from afar) reflects how perspectives alter perception. What seems majestic from a distance loses its charm upon closer inspection.
Krishna guides Arjuna toward this realization of infinity, emphasizing the importance of value and righteousness over material possessions. The true measure of significance lies in the cause, not the acquisition of wealth. Krishna’s counsel to Arjuna is to fight for the protection of dharma, not for material gain.
