A car, proceeding from Virajpet to Mysuru, was attacked by a wild elephant near Majjige Halla in Thithimathi forest area on Wednesday, January 15 night.

The car was severely damaged in the attack, but fortunately, the passengers escaped with minor injuries. Ashfaq, who runs a fair-price shop in Virajpet taluk, was traveling to Mysuru with his family when the incident occurred. The car driver Arfat had reduced the vehicle’s speed near a speed bump. At this time the elephant suddenly emerged and attacked the car. After causing significant damage, the elephant retreated into the forest.

The six family members sustained minor injuries and were treated as outpatients at a private hospital in Virajpet before returning home.

State Wildlife Board Member Sanket Poovayya visited the hospital to check on the injured and urged for immediate measures to prevent such incidents.

He emphasized the need for scientific solutions to remove speed bumps in forest areas and implement measures to control vehicle speeds. This, he said, would ensure the safety of both wildlife and human lives.
