Mangaluru: Kavoor Police have arrested a prime suspect in a cyber fraud case, for extorting over Rs 68 lakhs from victims by impersonating a CBI officer. The arrest was made in Kochi, Kerala, and the accused was produced in court on Friday.
The arrested accused, Nisar, allegedly posed as a CBI official investigating cybercrime cases and duping several victims by extorting money under false pretences. The case, registered under Crime No. 159/2024 at Kavoor Police Station, involves charges under sections 66(2), 66(2)(2), 308(2), and 381(4) of the BNS Act.
In a related case, two more suspects, Sahil K. P. and Muhammad Nashath R., were arrested in Kozhikode, Kerala, for defrauding victims of nearly Rs 90 lakhs through stock market scams. The duo allegedly promised high returns on investments but misappropriated the funds. They were apprehended from Koyilandy and face charges under sections 66(C), 66(D) of the IT Act, and 318(4), 3(5) of the BNS Act.
