An Indian-origin Tamil-language actor and radio DJ from Singapore, Gunalan Morgan, has been charged with multiple sex-related offences, including sexual communication with a minor. The State Courts on Friday, March 21 handed him seven charges, four of which involve sexual offences.

A court-imposed gag order restricts the disclosure of the victims’ identities and locations where the alleged incidents occurred. Gunalan, a producer-presenter with Mediacorp’s Tamil radio station Oli968, was immediately suspended by the company following his arrest. Mediacorp confirmed that he has since been served a termination notice but refrained from further comments.

According to court documents, the 43-year-old allegedly engaged in sexual communication with a minor between August 25 and August 31, 2024. Additionally, he is accused of obstructing justice by deliberately deleting Instagram conversations with the minor on September 16, 2024, after learning that a police report had been filed against him.

The charges against him also include voyeurism. If convicted, Gunalan faces severe legal consequences. Under Singaporean law, sexual communication with a minor under 16 carries a penalty of up to two years in jail, a fine, or both. The obstruction of justice charge could lead to imprisonment of up to seven years, a fine, or both. Additionally, a conviction for voyeurism can result in up to two years of imprisonment, a fine, caning, or a combination of these punishments.

Gunalan, who was unrepresented in court, informed the judge that he intends to engage legal counsel. His next court hearing is scheduled for April 21.
