Satna (Madhya Pradesh): Four criminals attacked a Sarpanch of a village in Satna district at 10pm on Wednesday and relieved him of Rs 1.10 lakh and a two-wheeler at gunpoint.
The victim was identified as Mahendra Singh Gaud, Sarpanch of Gadhot village, in Unchehara block. When Gaud went to lodge a complaint about the incident, he had to move between Maihar and Unchehara police stations, because he was told that the case did not come under their jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, some pedestrians caught hold of one of the four criminals Bhagyachandra Patel and handed him over to the police. Sarpanch said when the incident took place, he was returning home from a shop in Maihar where he had gone for some work.
When the culprits were running away after committing the crime, some pedestrians caught one of them. During the interrogation, the criminal told the police that he was acquainted with the other members of the gang.
Afterwards, he was handed over to the Unchehara police for further inquiry into the case.
On getting information, a large number of villagers from Gadhot rushed to the spot late in the night.
The Sarpanch sustained injuries in one of his hands because of the attack by the looters. The villagers initially reached the Maihar police station where the cops told them that the place where the incident took place did not come under their jurisdiction.
Then, the villagers reached Unchehara police station, where they were told that the issue belonged to the Maihar police station. After the Maihar police refused to register a case, the villagers together with the Sarpanch went to the hospital where they got him treated.
Afterwards, they went to the Unchehara police station with the criminal who was caught. TI of Unchehara police station Satish Mishra visited the spot due to the pressure mounted on him by the villagers.
Mishra said the place where the incident took place came under the Maihar police station but the villagers were not ready to listen to him.
