Pune, often hailed as the 'Oxford of the East', attracts students from across the country due to its high standard of education. However, a disturbing incident has come to light at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). It has been revealed that there is widespread consumption of alcohol and cigarettes within the university's girls' hostel.
According to information received, female students are allegedly drinking and smoking on a large scale in the girls' hostel of SPPU. A resident student has exposed this situation by taking photos and videos as evidence. The student had repeatedly reported these irregularities to the warden, but no action was taken.
Subsequently, she also wrote a letter to the registrar and vice-chancellor, detailing all the incidents. Despite this formal complaint, no action has been taken against the students who are allegedly involved in smoking and drinking.
Meanwhile, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has warned that if proper action is not taken against the accused students and if the university premises are not made free from alcohol and cigarettes, they would launch a strong protest.
Photos of rooms from the girls' hostel have gone viral. In the photos, several packets of cigarettes are seen stocked in drawers, while empty bottles of alcohol are visible lying under the sink.
