A total of 16,249 electricity consumers in Kalyan and Bhandup, who faced permanent power disconnection due to unpaid bills, have received relief under Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDC) Amnesty Scheme. By paying Rs 35.13 crore in outstanding dues, these consumers have availed waivers on late fees and interest, along with a 5-10% discount on the principal amount.

With the scheme set to end in March, MSEDC has urged remaining eligible consumers to apply online immediately to take advantage of the benefits.

“The scheme is applicable to low and high-tension electricity consumers whose power supply was permanently disconnected by March 2024 or earlier. However, it excludes public water supply and agricultural pump users. Consumers opting to pay their principal amount in full or in six equal installments will receive a 100% waiver on interest and late payment fees,” a spokesperson from MSEDC said.

Additionally, high-tension consumers who clear their dues in a single payment will receive a 5% discount, while low-tension consumers making a full payment will get a 10% discount. Consumers can either restore their electricity connection or apply for a new one after paying either the full amount or at least 30% of outstanding dues. Applications for the scheme must be submitted online through MSEDC’s portal.

The scheme has witnessed a positive response, particularly in Kalyan Circle, where 11,270 consumers have applied. Of these, 9,965 have cleared a total of Rs 17.53 crore in dues, with 6,124 consumers successfully restoring their electricity supply.
