Mumbai: Central Railway has gone that extra mile in an effort to provide better passenger amenities and boost earnings in the current financial year. Mumbai Division of Central Railway has taken proactive steps in identifying new assets for auction and awarding various contracts.
These efforts are part of an overarching strategy to enhance the Non-fare Revenue (NFR) and thus provide improved services to passengers. The total earnings from these initiatives from April 2024 till date is Rs 95.16 crores
The major initiatives includes
Out of Home Advertising (OOH) worth Rs 49.14 crores which also includes 3 new locations on Atal Setu generating annual revenue of Rs 1.16 crore.
Rail Display Network- Non-digital & Digital worth Rs 19.93 crores
The Non-digital assets include s Self ticketing zones at 22 stations, Advertisement rights through projection mapping technology, 3 Glow Ball Towers at CSMT, 1 at Panvel and other Non-digital assets sale at Uran and Dronagiri station. Besides, new sites for advertisement through digital media have been identified at Chunabhatti, Tilak Nagar and Vikhrioli station.
Mobile Assets worth Rs 15.54 crores which includes Vinyl wrapping on 26 Mail/Exp trains, Food Tray of 3 Vande Bharat Trains, Deccan Queen, Deccan Express, Indrayani express, Tejas Express and Janshatabdi Express,Head rest of CSMT-Madgaon Tejas Express and Glass door of Rajdhani Express.
Other Non Fare Revenue resources worth 10.40 crores include, Relaxation Massage Chairs at Kalyan and LTT, Waiting rooms at Panvel, Kalyan, Karjat, Lonavala and Thane, Battery Operated Carts, Bike & Parcel packing at CSMT, Dadar, LTT, Panvel, Vending of miscellaneous items in Mail/Exp trains and Passenger trainsand others.
Recent Developments in detail in Revenue Generation
Relaxation Massage Chair at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) and Kalyan station
The auction for the relaxation massage chair facility at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) was successfully awarded on 11.3.2025 at an annual license fee of Rs 4.65 Lakhs, with a total contract value of Rs 16.46 lakhs.
Similar contract was awarded for relaxation massage chair facility at Kalyan station on 18.2.2025 at an annual license fee of Rs 5.11 Lakhs, with a total contract value of Rs 15.34 Lakhs.
12th March 2025 – Advertisement Contract for ROHA Station
An advertisement contract for Roha station was awarded at an annual license fee of Rs 1.85 Lakhs, amounting to a total contract value of Rs 5.55 Lakhs.
13th March 2025 – Advertisement Rights on Tejas Express (CSMT-Madgaon)
The annual license fee for advertisement rights on the headrests and end walls (interior) of the CSMT-Madgaon Tejas Express was awarded at Rs 9.90 Lakhs, with a total contract value of Rs 29.70 Lakhs.
15th March 2025 – Advertisement Rights via LED Screens at Various Stations
Advertisement contracts through LED screens at Vikhroli, Chunabhatti, and Tilaknagar stations were awarded at annual license fees of Rs 24 Lakhs, Rs 8 Lakhs, and Rs 6 Lakhs, respectively, with a combined contract value of Rs 2.01 Crores. These contracts are in addition to existing non-digital media advertisements at the stations.
Outsourcing of Non-AC Waiting Rooms at Thane Station:
Two locations were successfully awarded for outsourcing the non-AC waiting rooms at Thane Station:
Platform No. 2: Rs 52.49 Lakhs
FOB (Foot Over Bridge): Rs 7.86 Lakhs
Total contract value: Rs 1.81 Crores.
Upcoming Auctions:
In addition to the above, further auctions for various assets are scheduled from 18th March 2025 to 21st March 2025. These include more opportunities for the generation of additional revenue through the auctioning of valuable assets and increase in facilities for passengers
