Mumbai: The Gokhale Bridge, linking the eastern and western sections of Andheri, is advancing swiftly. According to Lokmat, the bridge is anticipated to be entirely finished by the first week of May 2025, with traffic able to use it starting the second week of May.
The Bridge Department of the Municipal Corporation is managing the project. In December 2022, contractors were selected to rebuild the railway segment of the Gokhale Bridge, linking C. D. Barfiwala Road with N. S. Phadke Road.

Nonetheless, confusion emerged because of a gap separating the Gokhale Bridge from the Barfiwala Bridge, leading to difficulties in effectively linking the two structures. To tackle this problem, there were comprehensive talks at the administrative level.
Due to the rising expenses of the bridge, assistance from experts at the VJTI organization was requested. Upon reviewing the situation, the specialists proposed several solutions, and the local government implemented the required actions. Nonetheless, this resulted in a rise in the total expense of the project.
The initial stage of the Gokhale Bridge was finished in February 2024, and this part became operational for traffic on February 26, 2024. At present, only light automobiles are permitted to utilize this section of the bridge.
The railway section work for the second phase has also been finalized recently. Additional Commissioner Abhijit Bangar has directed that the construction of the access road inside the municipal boundaries be completed by the end of April 2025.
Although the municipality originally anticipated the bridge would be finished by June 2025, work has advanced more quickly, and it is now projected to be completed in the first week of May. The bridge is set to open for traffic during the second week of May.
