A video showing a ghunghat-clad woman in Jalalpur, Uttar Pradesh made to step out of her husband’s house allegedly over dowry issues is going viral on social media.

The woman was identified as Ranjana Yadav, who was married to Ramesh Kumar Yadav in the Ambedkar Nagar area of the state. She was married in March last year.

Following the recent incident, she approached the local police and lodged a complaint against her in-laws for harassing her, snatching all her ornaments, and demanding a huge sum of Rs 5 lakh.

According to reports, Ranjana had offered a fridge, cooler, bed and few other as dowry when she shifted to her husband’s home after marriage. However, her in-laws kept asking her for more dowry and collected all her jewellery. They also demanded her to give them five lakh rupees while throwing her out of the residence.

Harassed by husband, brother-in-laws

Ranjana was reportedly harassed by her husband Ramesh Kumar and brother-in-laws Shrinath and Raksharam.

Visuals showed her being sent to her maternal house as she didn’t satisfy their dowry demands. She tried resisting the act by holding the grills at the entrance, but a man forcefully pulled her out.

Case registered

The local police is currently looking into the matter. The cops have registered a case of dowry harassment and started an investigation. SHO Jai Prakash told the media that they are acting on a complaint filed by the victim woman.

Dowry is prohibited under the law in India.
