Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Director General of Police (DGP) Kailash Makwana reached Mauganj on Sunday to assess the situation following the violent incident atGadra village in Shahpur police station area. He met injured officials and reviewed the law-and-order response. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced martyr status for assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Ramcharan Gautam, who was killed in the attack.

The violence erupted when a tribal family, accused of killing a youth named Sunny Dubey, clashed with the police team that arrived for his rescue. The mob attacked officials, killing ASI Gautam and injuring several others, including Mauganjtehsildar. Ten policemen, including Shahpura police station in-charge Sandeep Bharti, were left bleeding in the chaos.

Rewa Range Deputy Inspector General of Police Saket Pandey on Sunday confirmed that six suspects had been arrested, and police were actively searching for additional individuals involved in the attack. The police have also started the process of identifying other perpetrators. Late at night, a heavily armed police force stormed Gadra village, firing in the air to break the standoff.

In the operation, SDOP Ankita Shulya and SI Aarti Verma, who had been taken hostage, were successfully rescued. The police also recovered the bodies of ASI Gautam and the deceased youth. On Sunday, under tight security, post-mortem examinations were conducted, and the bodies were handed over to their respective families.

Lens on police lapses

Following the violent incident, DGP Kailash Makwana visited the area to assess the situation. He met injured victims at the hospital and held discussions with police officials.Meanwhile, allegations of police negligence have surfaced in the case. Shahpur police station in-charge Sandeep Bharti, who has been mired in controversies before, along with the SDOP and SP, are reportedly under scrutiny and may face removal.

Old dispute

A few months ago, a youth named Ashok Kol died, with police ruling it an accident. However, Ashok s tribal family accused Sunny Dubey and his relatives of murder.On Saturday, tension escalated when Sunny Dubey visited the tribal locality. He was taken hostage and killed in retaliation. When police arrived to rescue him, they were attacked by tribals.

SDOP rescued

In a brutal attack by accused, several officials, including tehsildar Kunware Lal Panika and Shahpur police station in-charge Sandeep Bharti, were injured. Others hurt in the assault include Brihaspati Patel, Ankit Shukla, Anant Mishra, Jawahar Singh Yadav, Ram Kewat, Ram Lakhan Mishra, Vikas Pandey, and women constables Preeti Yadav, Devvati Mishra and Rambachan Yadav, along with over a dozen police personnel.

Following the assault, additional police forces were deployed to Gadara. As the number of attackers surged, police fired in the air, causing the mob to scatter. The injured officers were rescued, and the SDOP, who had been locked in a room, was safely freed.

Rs 1craid to ASI kin

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced martyr status for ASI (25th Battalion) Ramcharan Gautam, who lost his life in the Mauganj violence. The CM said that ?1 crore financial assistance will be provided to Gautam's family. Additionally, the eligible successor of the martyr will be given a government job. The CM also assured that proper medical care is being arranged for the injured officials.

Holi Milan Samaroh PHQ has canceled ‘Holi Milan Samaroh’ scheduled for Monday due to the death of ASI in Mauganj, officials said on Sunday. The event was set to take place at 5 PM on Monday, but the tragic incident has left the police personnel in mourning, leading to its suspension.
