In an era when physical punishment in schools is becoming increasingly rare, the headmaster of a school in Andhra Pradesh has sparked both shock and admiration by subjecting himself to it. Chinta Ramana, the Headmaster of Zilla Parishad High School in Vizianagaram, shocked students by performing sit-ups while holding his ears, questioning his ability to teach them. A 2.3-minute video of this incident has gone viral on social media.

The headmaster's unusual act of humility and dedication garnered praise from state minister Nara Lokesh, who shared the video on X, applauding the headmaster’s gesture.

The video shows the headmaster standing on a stage in front of a large group of students, accompanied by a student and another person, probably a teacher. In a brief speech, Ramana expressed his frustration, stating that despite his efforts, he had failed to improve his students' academic performance and discipline. He also called on parents to collaborate with teachers for better educational outcomes.

He explained, "We cannot beat or scold you. We are forced to keep our hands tied. Even though we are putting in so much effort, there’s no improvement in behaviour, academics, writing, or reading skills."

Addressing his students, he asked, "Is the problem with you or with us? If it’s with us, I will prostrate before you. If you want, I will hold my ears and do sit-ups." True to his word, Ramana first lay flat on the floor in a gesture of prostration, then began performing sit-ups in front of his students.

Initially stunned, the students soon began pleading, "Don’t, Sir, please don’t." However, Ramana continued, completing at least 50 sit-ups in one go.
