Vadodara (Gujarat): A horrific accident in the Karelibagh area of Gujarat's Vadodara claimed the life of a woman and left several others injured after a high-speed car ploughed into multiple vehicles on Thursday. According to reports quoting police, the driver, identified as Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia, a law student at MS University, was under the influence of alcohol when he lost control of the vehicle.

Accident Caught On CCTV

The shocking accident, which was caught on CCTV near Amrapali Complex, showed the car moving at an estimated speed of over 100 kmph. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle took a sharp turn, leading many to flee, but some were unable to escape in time. The reckless driving resulted in one fatality on the spot and left four to five people seriously injured. Three two-wheelers were also damaged in the crash. The injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment, reported Times Now.

Accused Youth Behaves Erratically After Crash

Rakshit was not alone in the vehicle, his companion, Pranshu Chauhan, who owned the car, was also present. Following the accident, Rakshit stepped out of the severely damaged black car in an intoxicated state. In a video circulating online, Pranshu, coming out of the car in a white T-shirt is heard saying, "Chhod merko, chu**ya insaan. Mera kuch nahi hai, wo gaadi chala raha tha (I did not do anything, he was driving the car)." Meanwhile, Rakshit, in a black T-shirt, remained inside, calling out to his friend.

As the gathering crowd surrounded him, Rakshit was seen behaving erratically, shouting Another round, Another round, then a girl’s name, Nikita, Nikita, before suddenly chanting ‘Om Namah Shivay.’ Enraged by his reckless actions, bystanders thrashed him until the police arrived to take control of the situation. Local police have arrested Rakshit, while a search is underway for Pranshu, who fled the scene.

Investigation Underway Into The Matter

The car involved in the accident was registered under Deon Technology Pvt Ltd. Senior police officials, along with local BJP leaders, including the city BJP president and the area’s MP, visited the site following the incident.

Leena Patil, Joint CP confirmed that the driver was drunk, while speaking to the media, "A 4-wheeler rammed into a 2-wheeler and one woman died in the accident. The accused driver has been caught. Police are conducting further probe...this is a case of drunk and driving."

The tragic crash led to the cancellation of the ongoing Rangotsav program, which was being held in the locality as part of Holi celebrations. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter, including verifying the extent of alcohol consumption and other possible contributing factors.
