Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): A man was caught smuggling liquor onboard Utkal Express in Gwalior on Thursday, a day before Holi celebration. The Railway Police Force arrested him from the AC coach of the train and seized all 32 bottles of branded English liquor.

The accused had brought the stock from Haryana to Orissa in three bags. The RPF, sensing something suspicious, asked the smuggler to open the bags for checking when he was caught.

Accused bought cheap booze from Haryana to sell at high rates in Odisha

According to information, the accused has been identified as Surendra Kumar, a resident of Chhattisgarh. He was travelling from Haryana to Odisha in AC coach B-5 of the Utkal Express on Thursday.

Kumar was carrying branded liquor bottles concealed in three bags. Meanwhile, the RPF was on a routine check on the train.

Finding the bags suspicious, the police questioned the passenger about what was inside. The accused panicked, confirming something was off. The cops searched the bag, in which 32 bottles of liquor of different brands were recovered.

During interrogation, Kumar admitted that he would buy cheap liquor from Haryana and sell it at high prices in Orissa. RPF Inspector Sanjay Kumar Arya said that the accused has been handed over to the Excise Department for further action.
