Raipur/Ranchi: Notorious gangster Aman Sao was killed in a police encounter in Jharkhand on Tuesday morning. The encounter took place while Sao, who was being transported from Raipur Central Jail, allegedly attempted to flee after his convoy was ambushed by the gangster associates.
According to Palamu SP Rishma Rameshan, an Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) team was escorting Sao in connection with a National Investigation Agency (NIA) case. Near Anhari Dhowdha Valley on Chainpur-Ramgarh Road, the convoy was attacked by Sao's accomplices who hurled bombs in an attempt to free him.
During the ensuing chaos, Sao reportedly snatched a rifle from Constable Rakesh Kumar and tried to fire at the police. In the retaliatory action, Sao was fatally shot. Constable Kumar sustained a gunshot wound to his thigh and is receiving treatment at MMCH Palamu.
Aman Sao had become a major organised crime figure in Jharkhand, as well as in other states and gained notoriety for extortion and brutal ways of violence targeting coal traders, transporters, contractors, real estate developers, and businessmen. His gang frequently claimed responsibility for acts of intimidation through social media.
He had been incarcerated in Raipur Central Jail until Monday night, when he was transported by Jharkhand Police. Prior to that, he had been shifted to 11 different jails since 2021 due to allegations of operating his gang from within prison.
Sao
The gangaster’s name got highlighted when his gang members opened fire infront of PRA group headquarters situated in Telibandha police station limits on July 13, 2024 and threatened construction businessman Prahlad Rai Agarwal of life endangering consequences if levy not get paid.
However, when the police investigated, it was found that Aman is lodged in Chaibasa jail in Jharkhand and operating from the jail. The Raipur police brought him from Chaibasa jail to Raipur. Aman was brought to Raipur in the custody of more than 20 officers.
Police sources indicate Sao had connections to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Interrogation revealed confidential information and authorities believed further investigation could expose high-profile individuals linked to Sao's criminal network.
