Mumbai: A passenger was apprehended at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport by a Mumbai Police officer from the Bureau of Immigration for falsifying his date of birth on his passport.

Discrepancies In Date Of Birth Led To Detention

Police Constable Nilesh Bhaidekar, who was on duty on March 8, conducting routine checks on travel documents, noticed discrepancies in the date of birth mentioned on a passenger’s passport. The passenger, identified as Asgar Ali, was stopped for further verification.

Bhaidekar immediately informed Wing Incharge Anshuman Baksharay and presented the passenger before him. Following this, Anshuman and Duty Officer Shashikant Singh interrogated Asgar Ali, reported Lokmat Times.

Accused Obtained Fake Passport To Evade Age Issues While Looking For Job

During questioning, Asgar admitted that he had obtained his passport from Patna, Bihar. He originally received his passport in 2009, which listed his birth date as January 10, 1975. Using this passport, he worked in Saudi Arabia between 2012 and 2016.

However, he revealed that individuals above 50 years of age face difficulties securing employment in Gulf countries. To circumvent this issue, he procured a second passport by altering his birth date to April 3, 1994.

With the falsified passport, Asgar attempted to travel to the UAE on March 9, but immigration officials identified the discrepancy during their verification process and stopped him.

FIR Filed Against Asgar Ali

Following a complaint from the Bureau of Immigration, Sahar Police has registered an FIR against Asgar Ali under Sections 318(4), 336(2), 336(3), and 340(2) of the BNS, along with Section 12 of the Indian Passport Act. The investigation is currently underway.

Similar Incident Reported Earlier

In a similar case reported earlier this month, the Sahar police filed an FIR against 50-year-old Sohail Hassan for allegedly attempting to travel to Abu Dhabi using a forged passport. Investigations revealed that he had obtained the passport from the Patna office by providing false personal details. The case was registered on March 1 under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita and the Passport Act.
