Mumbai, March 09: Congress national spokesperson Shama Mohamed on Sunday praised Team India captain Rohit Sharma for his incredible 76 runs inning in the India vs New Zealand ICC Champions Trophy 2025 finals which took place at the Dubai International Stadium. Team India beat New Zealand and lifted the CT 2025 trophy for the third time. Rohit Sharma scored half century in the match which set the tone for the historic victory.

Shama Mohamed had earlier fat-shamed Rohit Sharma and raised concerns over the fitness of the Indian skipper. Shama Mohamed said in a Tweet, She called Team India skipper "overweight" and "the most unimpressive captain India has ever had."

She later deleted her posts after facing criticism and ire from the opposition leaders and on social media. Besides calling Rohit Sharma fat, Mohamed also raised questions on his captaincy, calling it ‘unimpressive’.

As the situation escalated, Congress distanced itself from her remarks. Congress said that her remarks do not reflect the party's position. Shama also said that the party has nothing to do with her remarks and asked the opposition to keep her party away from her remarks. BCCI also slammed her for her remarks against the Indian skipper.

However, Shama extended her wishes to the team for lifting the trophy and said, "Congratulations to #TeamIndia for their stupendous performance in winning the #ChampionsTrophy2025! Hats off to Captain @ImRo45 who led from the front with a brilliant 76, setting the tone for victory. @ShreyasIyer15 and @klrahul played crucial knocks, steering India to glory! A triumph to remember!

Batting first, New Zealand set a target of 252 runs for Team India. Setting the tone for the victory, Rohit Sharma and Shubhman Gill gave a marvellous start to their chase. Rohit Sharma went on to score 76 runs off 83 balls which helped the team to win the finals against New Zealand with ease.
