American porn star Whitney Wright made headlines over her alleged recent trip to Taliban-ruled Afghanistan. Wright, who is reportedly on a tour of Muslim-majority nations, visited Afghanistan recently, where women's rights have been curtailed since the Taliban took over the regime in 2021.
The adult star, who is popular on social media with over a million followers across platforms, became a subject of discussion last year for her visit to Iran.
Iran, where the majority of the population is Shia Muslim, is one of the most infamous nations regarding women's and girls' rights.
Wright shared news of her trip to Afghanistan via a post on Instagram, where she uploaded pictures showing a plane from the national carrier Ariana on a runway, a tiled ceiling from the western city of Herat, and other scenes, news agency Associated Press (AP) reported.
However, she was absent from the pictures and has remained silent on the topic since posting them.
The Taliban have also not responded to Wright's visit.
Wright was born in Oklahoma City, United States. As a US citizen, she requires a visa to enter Afghanistan; however, there are no functioning Afghan embassies or consulates in the US.
The US State Department has imposed travel restrictions on its citizens due to ongoing civil unrest, crime, terrorism, kidnapping risks, and inadequate healthcare facilities in Afghanistan.
Whitney is an outspoken advocate for Palestinian rights and is known for her strong criticism of Israel.
During her visit to Iran, the country's authorities, under the leadership of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, stated that she was granted a visa like any other foreign visitor. Despite this, her trip sparked controversy at the time.
