In an interesting incident during the Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final between India and Australia at the Dubai International Stadium, umpire Richard Illingworth had restricted Ravindra Jadeja from wearing tape on his bowling hand. The spin-bowling all-rounder had to duly oblige the umpire's orders and he removed it. However, it's worth wondering what the rules say.

With Jadeja standing at the top of his mark to begin the over, Illingworth interrupted him so that the Saurashtra all-rounder removes the tape off his hand. Under the Laws, "protection for the hand or fingers may be worn only with the consent of the umpires" and it is not uncommon for fielders to be seen with tape and strapping on hands, wrists and fingers.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had also joined the conversation and seem unimpressed by the same.
