Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has returned to his home team, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), after a decade. Ahead of IPL 2025, CSK bought Ashwin for ₹9.75 crore in the mega auction. He has already started practicing with the team for pre-season preparations.
CSK shared a video on social media where Ashwin expressed his feelings about rejoining the franchise where he began his IPL journey. In the video, Ashwin says, "It feels very odd actually, it has been many years since I left, I am coming back to the same team, all the people are the same, every day I used to practice vigorously for the season.

Afterwards, I came here. I feel I’m a very senior person, but ok nevertheless, it’s a good feeling and I am looking forward to go to Chepauk as well."
Ravichandran Ashwin's performance for CSK
Ashwin made his IPL debut for CSK in 2009 and played for the franchise until 2015. During this period, he scored 800 runs and took 180 wickets. His best season was in 2011 when he picked up 20 wickets in a single edition.
After spending nine years with CSK, Ashwin moved to Punjab Kings, where he was the captain in the 2018 season. Later, he played for Delhi Capitals before making his way back to CSK in 2025. Now, he has a great opportunity to make the same impact he had in the past and contribute significantly to his home team once again.
IPL 2025 is all set to begin from March 22 and Chennai Super Kings will face there arch rivals Mumbai Indians on March 23 at Chepauk Stadium, Chennai.
