Jaipur: Former CM of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot has expressed concern over increase in sudden deaths due to heart attack. In a social media post, he has urged the government to conduct intensive research on the issue.

“Both the central and state governments should conduct intensive research on this subject; otherwise heart disease may take the form of an epidemic in the coming days,” said Gehlot on X.

Notably, 21-year-old Wushu player Mohit Sharma of Rajasthan University died in Chandigarh during the inter-university competition on Monday. The talented Wushu player had won the first round and was ready for the second round. While playing, he suddenly lost balance and fell on the mat of the ring. Fellow players and the referee immediately rushed him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

As per reports, more than 30 such cases have been reported in Jaipur itself in the last one and a half year. Besides this, the deaths of a 27-year-old engineer from Kota, a 35-year-old youth from Tonk and a 23-year-old resident of Sojat have also come to light in the last two months.

Although, there is no official data of such deaths but state government in its reply to one of the assembly questions has admitted that there is a normal increase in deaths due to heart attack but no assessment of it has been done by the government.

"Yes, there has been a normal increase and no assessment has been done of it by the government," replied the state government to the question of Independent MLA Yunus Khan who had asked the government that is it true that after COVID there has been an increase in cases of deaths due to heart attack.

Cornering the present BJP government for not implementing one of his announcements regarding opening a Center for Post-Covid Rehabilitation in Rajasthan University of Health Sciences, Ashok Gehlot said that there was excellent management of Covid in Rajasthan. The expert doctors who came in contact with us at that time suggested focusing on post-Covid research.

"Our government had announced to open a Center for Post-Covid Rehabilitation in RUHS in the 2023 budget, but the new government did not implement this announcement. Had this center opened, research would have been done on post-Covid complications. This research would have revealed why cases of sudden heart attack have increased among the youth," said Gehlot.
