Mumbai: Mumbai police have registered a case against a man for allegedly outraging the modesty of his estranged wife by sending her obscene and abusive messages. The incident came to light when the complainant, who had been living separately due to ongoing marital disputes, approached the Amboli police station and lodged a formal complaint.

Couple Living Separately For Past 10 Years

The 42-year-old complainant resides on Veera Desai Road in Andheri with her mother and son. She is employed at a private company and has been living apart from her husband for the past ten years due to domestic issues. In 2021, she had filed a domestic violence case against him. However, prioritising their son's future, she decided to withdraw the case in 2024, reported Lokmat Times.

₹15,000 Financial Support Promised By Husband, Failed To Deliver

As part of a mutual agreement, she submitted a consent letter in court, after which her husband promised to pay Rs 15,000 per month as financial support. Despite this assurance, the accused failed to make the promised payments. The woman made multiple attempts to follow up with him, but he remained unresponsive.

Obscene & Threatening Message Sent To Complainant

On Sunday, February 23, the situation escalated when the accused allegedly sent an obscene and threatening message to his wife. Disturbed by the nature of the message, the woman decided to take legal action and reported the incident to the police.

Acting on her complaint, the Amboli police registered a case under relevant sections related to outraging a woman's modesty and initiated an investigation. Officials stated that they are taking the matter seriously and will soon question the accused. They assured that appropriate action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
