Guwahati: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma attended an engaging session on "Indo-Bhutan Economic Cooperation and Gelephu Mindfulness City – Opportunities for Mutual Collaboration" in the presence of Minister of Agriculture & Livestock, Royal Government of Bhutan Younten Phuntsho that took place as part of Advantage Assam 2.0: Investment & Infrastructure Summit in Guwahati today. The session while emphasising on the deep historical and economic ties between Assam and Bhutan explored fresh opportunities to strengthen trade, connectivity, investment, and cultural exchanges.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said that Indo-Bhutan relationship built on the solid foundations of mutual respect and understanding, stands as a shining testament to a friendship that transcends geographical boundaries and celebrates shared values. He said the Indo-Bhutan relationship is a top priority for Prime Minister Modi and under his leadership and The King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Indo-Bhutan historic friendship will not only endure but flourish in the years ahead.
Underling the The Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) project, the Chief Minister said that once realized, the project will stand as a symbol of unity and shared prosperity between Bhutan and India. He conveyed his appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s support in facilitating the development of this project. Alongside the Government of India, the Assam Government is fully committed to bringing the GMC vision to life, he said adding that the state government is actively exploring collaborative avenues to align with GMC’s initiatives and reflect similar development on our side of the border.
He said that a key strategic initiative in this regard is the Inland Waterways Terminal at Jogighopa, underscoring Assam’s commitment to enhancing regional trade and cooperation, thus supporting GMC’s broader vision.
