Mumbai: Jubilant FoodWorks, on Tuesday, issued a clarification on reports published in the media about a first information report (FIR) against its Chairman, Shyam Sundar Bhartia. The FIR was filed at Kapurbawdi police station, Thane, against Bhartia (73) and three others by an actress on charges multiple rape, criminal intimidation and offences under the Atrocities Act.
Since the police did not register the FIR the victim through her lawyers Mohammed Ahmed Shaikh and Sofiya Shaikh had filed a criminal writ petition before Bombay high court which ordered the registration of the FIR.
In an exchange filing to the BSE, the company said Bhartia has denied all allegations against him, calling them “baseless, false and disparaging, and made with clear malafide intent”.
Jubilant FoodWorks pointed to the Bombay High Court order which had stated that the court did not go into the merits of the complaint and had directed the police to register the FIR and investigate the case on merit.
The company said Shyam S. Bhartia "would fully cooperate with the investigation agency as and when called upon to do so.” Jubilant FoodWorks added that the matter would not impact the company’s operations. "The said news reports have no material impact on the company or its operations," it claimed.
