While Mumbai has many monuments that make it look like a British city, with architecture and streets reminiscent of London, the recent proposal by the BMC for a 'Mumbai Eye,' inspired by the London Eye or the Millennium Wheel, has made a lot of waves in social discourses.
Mumbai Eye
The BMC announced its ambitious plans in its Budget of Rs 74,427 crore.
One Mumbai's many renowned residents, RPG group's Harsh Goenka took to X, to ask a question on the same.
In his post, he said, "Mumbai is set to get its own ‘Mumbai Eye’ , a Ferris wheel rivaling the London Eye! With Mumbai welcoming 14.9% of India’s foreign tourists & its airport among the busiest, this could be a game-changer for tourism. Will it redefine the city’s skyline?
Netizens React
Responding to this post, X users had some interesting thoughts to share.
One X user said, "This would be a perfect opportunity for CEAT to co brand as it resembles a tyre."
Another user said, "No, you have got it all wrong. Basic infra needs to be addressed first. Such vanity projects like Mumbai eye, random animal safaris etc are a colossal waste of resources."
"Good move as long as they maintain & run it properly!", said another user.
One witty X user said, "Everyone will get the privilege to see magical Mumbai's terrible roads from up the sky. Great initiative."
"The problem of Mumbai is cleanliness. The problem of potholes is reduced but not completely. And of course the traffic. BMC is the richest body. Otherwise, also for a city of billionaires, funds shouldn't be a problem. They should do some real work on tackling these issues. Tourism is related to these basic things.", added another user.

Clean and convenient public transport along with walk-ability is way more important. City is barely walkable. Heritage sites are full of litter and inaccessible.
Another user said, "Sir, Mumbai doesn't need a Ferris wheel yet.
What this amazing city needs is CLEAN AIR."
The Mumbai Eye project in the island city was first proposed in 2008. And the project was initially supposed to come up in Bandra Bandstand; however, that did not come to pass.
