Mumbai: A tragic accident occurred in Wadala, where a man ran over a family sleeping on the remains of their demolished home. The accident resulted in the death of an 18-month-old child, while the mother sustained serious injuries. Police have registered an FIR and arrested the driver involved in the incident.

The accident took place on the night between Saturday and Sunday near Ambedkar College, behind Ram Temple, Balaram Khedekar Marg, Wadala.

Around 12:30 AM, a speeding car (MH 01 CT 7256) ran over 29-year-old Priya Nikhil Londhe and her 18-month-old son, Vardhan, who were sleeping on the site of their demolished house. The child died on the spot, while the mother suffered severe injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at KEM Hospital.

Priya lived with her husband Nikhil Londhe and their two children, Swarup (5) and Vardhan (18 months). The family had been living in a slum settlement for the past 30 years, but their home was recently demolished under a BMC rehabilitation scheme. While some families received alternative housing, Priya’s family was among those left without a home, forcing them to stay at the demolition site to protect their belongings.

The R.A.K. Marg Police responded to the incident and arrested the 46-year-old driver, Kamal Vijay Riya, a resident of Wadala, Bhavan Heights. The child was declared dead at KEM Hospital, while Priya is being treated for severe shoulder and back injuries.T he R A K Police have registered a case under sections 106, 125(b), and 281 of the BNS, and further investigations are underway.
