A 16-year-old girl died after falling from a moving local train between Asangaon and Vashind railway stations, a Government Railway Police (GRP) official said on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Akanksha Jagtap, a resident of Bhopar village in Dombivli. She lived with her parents and sisters and passed away just days before her exams. According to the GRP, she was a tenth-grade student and had exams scheduled for February 22.
On February 18, Akanksha had visited the Siddhivinayak temple in Mumbai with her family. After offering prayers, they all left for home. However, she went missing while returning. Her family searched for her but was unable to locate her.
Concerned, the family approached the Dombivli police station to file a missing person report. Later that night, the Kalyan GRP received information about a 16-year-old girl's body found between the railway tracks near Asangaon and Vashind.
Pandari Kande, Police Inspector of Kalyan GRP, stated, "Our team rushed to the spot and found a girl lying in a pool of blood. She had sustained severe injuries. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. An Accidental Death Report was filed with the Kalyan GRP. The post-mortem was conducted before handing over the body for final rites."
