Bollywood actress Kirti Kulhari, who rose to fame with her performance in the 2016 film Pink, recently shared her experience of feeling overlooked during the film's promotions. Despite playing a crucial role, she revealed that she faced a 'big star-small star' treatment which deeply affected her.
In an interview with Fever FM, Kirti recalled that she viewed Pink as a story of three women, each playing an essential role. However, during promotions, she noticed that Taapsee Pannu received more attention. She revealed that once megastar Amitabh Bachchan was positioned as the face of the film, the focus then shifted almost entirely to Taapsee, leaving her feeling 'neglected'.
"Eventually, it became her film, and she became the ‘Pink girl.’ I saw that happening in front of me. It was a shock because I couldn't understand it," Kirti admitted. She further expressed her surprise after seeing the film’s trailer, which prominently featured Taapsee and Amitabh Bachchan, making her realise the difference in treatment.
Recalling her emotional turmoil, Kirti said, "I always believed we were all actors together, but Pink made me experience the hierarchy of ‘big star-small star’ firsthand." The actress also said that her lack of 'PR strategy' played a role in how she was positioned, something that shook her at the time.
Kirti further revealed that this experience affected her relationship with Taapsee Pannu, though she clarified that Taapsee 'might not have been aware of it'. "From her side, she didn’t notice this. She has been nice to me, but I took the whole PR game personally," she said.
After this incident, Kirti became more mindful of how she was positioned in future projects. While signing Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal, which also starred Taapsee, she ensured she had 'equal representation' alongside other actresses like Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha and Nithya Menen, making it clear that she wanted fair visibility.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Kirti was last seen in Himesh Reshammiya's Badass Ravi Kumar.
