Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has begun the process of seizing properties of property tax defaulters. Earlier the department had issued issued pre-seizure notices to 50 companies in Taloja Industrial Estate with the highest outstanding property tax dues.

“Administration has taken seizure action against M/s Valrack Modular System, located at Plot No. G 13/4, Taloja Industrial Estate, for an outstanding property tax amount of Rs 2,20,40,385. During the action, the building and finished goods of the company were seized,” said an official from the Public Relation office of PMC.

The operation was s carried out by Ward Officer Amar Patil Navade, Recovery Officers Harishchandra Kadu, Sanjay Deshmukh, Dilip Sawale, along with Adarsh Patil, Lalsingh Rathod, Eknath Thakur, police personnel from Taloja Police Station, and other staff members from the Navade Division.

The companies served notices were given a seven-day deadline to clear their dues, failing which seizure actions are now being initiated against them.

A total of 3.5 lakh properties in PMC’s jurisdiction have been assessed for property tax. Since April 2024, the municipality has collected ₹324 crore in property tax.

Deputy Commissioner Swaroop Kharge and the Seizure Team Officers have urged all property owners to promptly pay their property tax and cooperate with the municipal corporation. Failure to do so will result in seizure and legal action.

“Under the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, Section 128 and Schedule D, Chapter 8, Taxation Rule 47, the municipality has the authority to seize or auction off movable and immovable properties of defaulters to recover pending dues. Since property tax is a primary revenue source for civic projects, PMC has urged citizens to pay their taxes on time to avoid a 2% penalty per month on overdue amounts.,” informed the officer.

Based on this provision, the seizure team, led by Tax Superintendents Mahesh Gaikwad and Sunil Bhoir, has started taking action against defaulters in Kharghar, Navade, Kalamboli, Kamothe, Panvel, and New Panvel divisions.

To make the process easier, PMC has developed the ‘PMC TAX APP’ mobile application, allowing citizens to pay their property tax online. Additionally, payments can also be made through the official website www.panvelmc.org.
