Mumbai: Following the Coldplay concert ticket black marketing case, Maharashtra Cyber Cell has launched a major crackdown to curb illegal resale of event tickets at inflated prices. Maharashtra Cyber Cell has directed BookMyShow and Zomato to ensure that tickets for major concerts and large-scale events like Coldplay’s must have the buyer’s name printed on them.
Cyber Cell Chief Yashasvi Yadav stated that during high-demand events, individuals purchase tickets in bulk and later resell them at exorbitant prices through various platforms and social media.

BookMyShow and Zomato officials were summoned and instructed to implement a system where tickets for high-demand events must be issued in the name of the buyer. At the event venue, attendees must present a government-issued ID (Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, or Driving License). Entry will be granted only if the name on the ticket matches the name on the ID.
Yadav further revealed that Maharashtra Cyber will soon issue a white paper based on insights gathered from various ticketing platforms. This document will outline legal frameworks and technical changes required in ticketing systems to prevent black marketing of event tickets.
