Officials of the Assam Police's crime branch unit reached comedian Samay Raina's residence in Pune on Thursday evening to serve him a legal notice in connection with the ongoing India's Got Latent controversy.

Two Assam crime branch officials were spotted outside Samay's house in Pune, and one of them told ANI that they were there to serve him a legal notice with respect to the FIR filed against him in Guwahati. It is to be noted that the comedian is not in India at the moment.

Samay, who is currently busy with his US Tour, has informed via his counsel that due to a slew of shows scheduled overseas, he will be able to return to India not before March 17. He has requested the Maharashtra Cyber Cell to allow him time until March 17 to appear in person. In the meantime, he has agreed to comply with the investigation and legal proceedings.

On Monday (February 10), Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on X that an FIR was registered against Samay, Ranveer, Ashish Chanchlani, Apoorva Mukhija, Jaspreet Singh and others, "for promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit and vulgar discussion in a show titled India's Got Latent".

For those unversed, it all began after Ranveer, Apoorva and Ashish appeared as guests in the latest episode of India's Got Latent, which is hosted by Samay. During the episode, Ranveer asked a contestant, "Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life — or would you join in once and stop it forever?"

This did not go down well with netizens, who slammed the show and the content creators for promoting vulgarity online. Later, Ranveer issued an apology, stating that there was a "lapse in judgement" on his part.

Samay, on the other hand, wrote on X, "Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all Indias Got Latent videos from my channel. My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you (sic)."
