Badass Ravi Kumar starring Himesh Reshammiya was released last week. The film received mixed reviews from the critics, and the movie has collected Rs. 7.85 crore in six days at the box office. One thing in the film that has grabbed everyone's attention is the dialogues. From the day the trailer was launched, the dialogues had become the talk of the town.
Free Press Journal recently interacted with the film's dialogue writer Bunty Rathore, and spoke to him about the response to the dialogues, what briefing he had received from the makers, the rape reference dialogue and lot more...
When you hear from critics or the audience that dialogues were the best element of the film, how do you feel about it?
It feels good, but there's also a feeling of pressure that now one has to live up to the expectations of the audiences. So, both the feelings are there at the same time.
What was the briefing given to you by the makers for Badass Ravi Kumar?
I had got the briefing from Himesh Bhai. When he had conceived this film at that time even Animal and Pushpa were not made. When the title announcement had happened a few years ago, at that time we had not written the script as well. So, the briefing given to me was that this is the Ravi Kumar from The Xpose universe. So, I was told to write larger than life dialogues that we used to hear in 80s Hindi films of Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, and Shatrughan Sinha.
Did you go to theatres to watch the reaction?
Yes, I went recently with my wife. Himesh bhai has fulfilled his commitment of entertainment, entertainment, and entertainment. There were laughs, claps, and sittis (whistles) on dialogues and music.
There's a dialogue in the movie 'Neeyat tumhari kharab hoti hai aur ghoonghat aurton se karwate ho'. It is with a reference of 'rape' and 'ghoonghat'. While of course other dialogues are taken as comedy or memes, this one particular dialogue had a lot of sense. So, how did that came into your mind?
I always think that a guy says that the girl was wearing a particular dress so he got excited and raped her. So, I always feel that what if your sister or your mother comes in the same dress, will you do it? The problem is in your neeyat (intention), and not in the girl's dress. I am from Meerut and today also I see that women do ghoonghat (Veil). So, that was a thought, and I had the most expectations from this dialogue only. This is the reality and it touches ones heart. Even the character tells that it was the girl's mistake that she was roaming late night. So, if a girl roams at night you will rape her? This is not correct. I am very happy that you spoke about the dialogue.
'Tere shareer mein itna khoon nahi hoga, jitna Ravi Kumar ek baar mein moot deta hai', what was the idea behind this dialogue in The Xpose (also used in Badass Ravi Kumar)?
I don't exactly remember how that dialogue was written because it has been many years. But, it was just written in the comparison. Like the character says that he doesn't care about khoon kharaba, so Ravi Kumar replies with this. There were other options also, but I felt this one will work. When I told the dialogue to Himesh Bhai, he heard it for the first time and said that this will become 'historic'.
You have worked with big stars like Akshay Kumar (Khiladia 786), Ajay Devgn (All The Best) and others. But, is there an actor you wish mouths the dialogues written by you?
Yes, there is. It is Govinda I want to write dialogues for Govinda ji. I don't know if this wish will come true or not. Even Salman Khan in his cameo Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se has said dialogues written by me. Govinda ji knows me, and we were supposed to work, but things didn't work out.
Is There Badass Ravi Kumar 2 happening?
I don't know about it. I know that they have given a hint in the climax, but I haven't been told anything about it.
