The Navi Mumbai residents would face low pressure water supply on Thursday following a pipeline rupture that took place on Wednesday. The issue was solved by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) in close to six hours after working in war footing basis.
“The main water pipeline (2042 mm diameter) from Morbe Dam has developed a major leakage near Marble Market, Kalamboli,” said the NMMC official. The videos that went viral showed the severity of the leakage.
NMMC had shut down the water supply from the Bhokarpada Water Treatment Plant to facilitate urgent repair work. The repair was carried out on a priority basis. Due to the disruption, there was no water supply on Wednesday evening in Navi Mumbai as well as CIDCO areas such as Kharghar and Kamothe. The NMMC has urged residents to use water judiciously and cooperate with the authorities until normal supply is restored.
On February 4 too, the residents had water supply shortage after NMMC had undertaken urgent repairs on the Morbe main water pipeline near Belpada Metro Station affecting suspension of water supply from 10 am to 8 pm, at Belapur, Nerul, Vashi, Turbhe, Sanpada, Koparkhairane, Ghansoli, and Airoli.
