The Indian cricket team has suffered a major setback ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, with star pacer Jasprit Bumrah ruled out due to a lower back injury. Bumrah sustained the injury during the Sydney Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 while playing against Australia.
To fill the void left by Bumrah, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named Harshit Rana as his replacement in the Champions Trophy squad. Following the announcement, cricket fans took to social media to express their disappointment over Bumrah’s absence from the marquee tournament.

BCCI has only put Bumrah has been ruled out but nothing about the progress or depth of the injury. They're playing safe with ambani mama.

Wt if #bumrah plays @IPL? Will he be fit for IPL? Is Bumrah not playing Champions trophy for IPL? Is there any pressure on Bumrah to play IPL by franchise?

Following his injury in Sydney, Jasprit Bumrah underwent two rounds of scans, the latest of which took place in the first week of February. Although the latest medical report revealed nothing major, it was learnt that Jasprit Bumrah is not fully fit to return to bowling.
Has Bumrah missed any ICC tournament so far?
This will be the second time in the last five years that Bumrah has missed a big ICC tournament due to injury, with the previous instance being the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.
Bumrah's absence is a major setback for Inia considering his performance after coming back from a lengthy injury layoff. The 31-year-old was player of the tournament in India's successful 2024 T20 World Cup campaign, taking 15 wickets at a ridiculous average of 8.26.
Bumrah then practically carried the Indian attack throughout the five-match Test series in Australia. The 31-year-old finished with 32 wickets in nine innings at an incredible average of 13.06.
