A video circulating on social media has sparked speculation about French President Emmanuel Macron’s interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the AI Action Summit in Paris. The footage appears to show Macron skipping a handshake with PM Modi while greeting other world leaders, leading to online discussions and varied interpretations.

In the viral clip, President Macron is seen shaking hands with leaders in attendance, but as he reaches PM Modi, he seemingly moves past him and instead greets others standing behind. PM Modi, in response, simply waves to the crowd. A caption on X questioned, "Why did French President Emmanuel Macron not shake hands with Modi ji?"
However, while the video itself is genuine, its interpretation is misleading. Reports clarify that the two leaders had already exchanged a handshake prior to this moment and had entered the conference hall together, engaging with other dignitaries.

Since PM Modi’s arrival in Paris on Monday, he met President Macron multiple times. Macron had hosted a welcome dinner for Modi and other world leaders, during which both were seen sharing a warm embrace and exchanging light-hearted conversations. This contradicts any narrative suggesting strained relations.
During his closing remarks at the AI Action Summit, which he co-chaired with Macron, PM Modi stressed the importance of global cooperation in artificial intelligence. “The discussions have clearly brought out that there is unity in vision and unity in purpose across stakeholders,” he stated, adding that India is willing to host the next AI summit.
Nations are coming together to shape the future of AI—collaborating to ensure innovation is inclusive and transformative. We will keep working to make AI a force for progress and prosperity.
