Kolkata: Days after Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Shatrughan Sinha said that he feels that non-vegetarian food should be banned in the country, another TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee on Tuesday in Lok Sabha said that Bengali cannot stay without ‘fish’.
“There is a saying in Bengali ‘Machhe bhate Bangali’ (Bengali means fish curry and rice. Wherever Bengali goes they look for Hilsa and prawns. It is the staple food for the Bengalis,” said Banerjee.

Notably, a couple of days back TMC Asansol MP Shatrughan Sinha while speaking about implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) at Uttarakhand, told the media that he personally feels that non-veg should be banned across the country.
“If beef is banned it should be uniform throughout the country and not in certain states. A friend of mine said if you eat beef in the North East it is considered to be ‘yummy’ and in North India it is ‘mummy’. My personal opinion is that non-vegetarian food should be banned in the country,” Sinha was heard saying.
