The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against a Chief Engineer of Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) and three others for allegedly being involved in corrupt activities.
According to the CBI, a source information had disclosed that Sumeet Khajuria, IRSE-2005, Chief Engineer of KRCL in connivance with three directors of a private company, is indulging in corrupt activities of obtaining bribe money in lieu of favouring the company in clearance of pending bills and revising the estimates related to removal of tunnel muck in execution of work order related to Katra-Dharam section of the Udhampupr-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project supervised by KRCL.
"It is also disclosed that on 30.01.2025, one of the directors informed Sumeet Khajuria that representatives of his company had submitted a bill in his office and that a subordinate officer of Sumeet Khajuria had made some adverse changes or remarks regarding the said bill. In furtherance of the said criminal conspiracy, the accused director urged Sumeet Khajuria to intervene favourably. On this, Sumeet Khajuria assured the accused that he would certainly fulfil his commitments and do the needful and told him to meet him in person in his camp office at Jammu," said a CBI official.
A case has been registered by the CBI in the matter on charges of criminal conspiracy, offence relating to public servant being bribed, taking undue advantage to influence public servant by corrupt or illegal means or by exercise of personal influence, offence relating to bribing of a public servant, offence relating to bribing a public servant by a commercial organization under the sections of Prevention of Corruption Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
