A delegation from the Sikh community has demanded the cancellation of the amended section 11 (government’s power to appoint Gurudwara board chairman) of the Takh Sachkhand Shri Huzoor Avchalnagar Sahib Act 1956 and the conduction of the board election in a democratic manner. A memorandum in this regard was recently submitted to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Shinde responded positively to the demand and assured the delegation that a favorable decision would be taken soon.
Shinde was in Nanded recently on his thanksgiving tour when the delegation of the Sikh community met him. In the memorandum, it was mentioned that sections 6 and 11 of the Gurudwara board were revised, giving the government the power to appoint the chairman. As a result, the election of the chairman has not been conducted for a long time. The government, in amending these sections, had not considered the views of the local Sikh community.
