Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna's magnum opus, Chhaava, is all set to release in theatres on February 14, and ahead of it, the Censor Board has suggested some major changes in the film. According to reports, several words and phrases have been asked to modify and a couple of words have also been muted.
The words 'har****da' and 'har****don' have been muted, while the word 'Aameen' has been replaced by 'Jai Bhavani'. In another scene, the dialogue "Khoon toh aakhir Mughalon ka hi hai" has been changed to "Khoon toh hai Aurang ka hi".
The dialogue "Mughal sultanat ka zehar" has been replaced with "Uss samay, kayi shaasak aur sultanat khud ko zinda rakhne ki koshish kar rahe the".
The Censor Board also asked the makers of Chhaava to remove a scene which showed Maratha warriors wearing sarees.
Along with that, the CBFC has given clear instructions to run an audio-text disclaimer at the beginning of the film, mentioning that the screenplay has been adapted from a book and it does not mean to defame anyone or misrepresent historical facts.
With all the cuts and modifications, the runtime of Chhaava is now 2 hours, 41 minutes and 50 seconds.
Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava is based on the life of the valiant Maratha warrior, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The film will see Vicky Kaushal essay the titular role, while Rashmika Mandanna plays the role of his wife, Yesubai Bhonsale.
Akshaye Khanna will feature in a never-seen-before avatar as Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
The film has been produced by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films, and it is one of the most anticipated films of 2025.
