To solve the traffic congestion in Pune city and reduce the number of accidents, a new 32.4-kilometer-long service road will be constructed between Khed Shivapur and Ravet. This is a two-lane road, and the cost of this is expected to be Rs 604 crore. The headquarters of the National Highways Authority of India has approved it.
Subhash Ghant, Senior Engineer, National Highways Authority, Pune, stated that the land acquisition work is in the final stage, and the tender process for this will be completed soon. The actual work will start in March. The aim is to complete the work in two years.
The road work will start in March 2025. The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has completed 90 percent of the land acquisition work for this, while the Pune Municipal Corporation is acquiring the remaining 10 percent. This new road will reduce the travel time by 20 minutes.
Considering the large number of vehicles congested at Narhe, Navale Pul, Warje, Chandni Chowk, and Ravet, and the number of accidents in the Narhe, Navale Pul area, the National Highways Authority will construct a service road on both sides of the main road passing through this area. There will be two lanes on one side of the service road. This will provide great convenience to people.
Currently, about two lakh 10 thousand vehicles travel on this road daily. This service road will facilitate vehicle owners. It currently takes 45 minutes to an hour to travel from Khed Shivapur to Ravet. The service road will help save time.

Details of the project
The project will be carried out in three phases: from Khed Shivapur to the new Katraj tunnel, from Warje to Balewadi, and from Wakad to Ravet.
The planned 32.4-kilometer-long service road will run alongside the main road between Khed Shivapur and Ravet, with two lanes on both sides. Each lane will be 3.5 meters wide. This service road will directly benefit at least one lakh vehicles every day.
The new road will significantly reduce traffic congestion on the main road, thereby alleviating traffic jams. It will be especially useful for small vehicles and local residents. The improved infrastructure will also lead to a decrease in the number of accidents, while saving travelers around 15 to 20 minutes in travel time. Additionally, it will help save fuel and contribute to faster traffic flow, improving the overall efficiency of travel in the area.
