Delhi Police has registered an FIR against Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan for allegedly attacking a police team in Jamia Nagar on Monday (February 10) Press Trust of India quoted unnamed police officials who told the agency that Amanatullah Khan and his supporters helped an accused wanted in a murder case escape from police custody.
FIR has been lodged against Khan and his supporters under sections penalising acts that obstruct public servants from discharging their duties.
As reported by PTI, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police was trying to arrest the accused, Shabaz Khan, when Amanatullah Khan's supporters confronted the police officials thereby providing opportunity for Shabaz Khan to flee from the spot.
Amanatullah Khan was reportedly present at the scene.
In recently concluded Delhi Legislative Assembly Election 2025, Amanatullah Khan trounced Bharatiya Janata Party's Manish Chaudhary. Khan got 88,392 votes while Chaudhary 65,304 votes. It follows that the winning margin was 23,639. With his latest win, Khan has secured victory from Okhla for third consecutive term.
AAP was dethroned in the election after a victorious run that lasted a decade. During this time, AAP had near-total grip on power. BJP made major inroads into AAP bastions this time. In 70-seat Delhi Assembly, BJP managed to bag 48 seats while AAP could manage 22 seats.
Before the elections, AAP had 58 seats while BJP had just 7 in its kitty.
Congress' tally remained at zero in both the elections.
