Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Aerodrome police busted a burglary gang and arrested three habitual thieves after one of them was caught limping in CCTV footage, an official said on Monday.
The police also recovered stolen valuables worth Rs 10 lakh from their possession. They used to target vacant houses after conducting recce. Whichever house they saw was locked for a long time, they broke into it and stole valuables.
DCP (zone-1) Vinod Kumar Meena told the media that the police have arrested Sandeep alias Sanju of Hatod, Bhupendra alias Bhura and Sunil of Chhatripura. Sandeep has 26 cases registered against him, Bhupendra has 11 and Sunil has 3 cases registered against him.
The police examined hundreds of CCTV cameras and arrested Sandeep on the basis of his gait as he was caught limping in the CCTV footage. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to committing theft at vacant houses in Nariman Point and Scheme No. 51 and told police about his accomplices Bhupendra and Sunil.
Additional DCP Alok Kumar Sharma said that the accused are professional thieves and used to commit crimes to fulfil their lavish lives. The police recovered the stolen valuables which included a gold mangalsutra, a gold chain, two gold pendants, five gold rings, three silver chains, two idols of gods, five silver coins, one silver glass and one silver lota, four pairs of silver anklets, two pairs of gold ear tops, a pair of gold ear pendant, a gold bracelet, a gold nose ring which has a total worth of around Rs 10 lakh. The police will also take action against the buyer of the stolen items. The accused are suspected to be involved in other house burglaries and they were being further interrogated.
