Raipur: A shooting occurred prior to the mayoral elections in Raipur, causing panic among the locals. The incident took place in the Matka Line in the Golbazar police station limits. A youth was reported fired in air over a dispute. The Mayoral election will be held on Tuesday.
The individual responsible for the firing has been identified as Taifuddin alias Tappu, who reportedly fired two rounds using a country-made pistol after a confrontation with Mohd. Kaleem near the Chikani Mandir, Raipur police said. Police have since confiscated the weapon and collected empty shell casings from the scene.
According to reports, the incident occurred on February 9. After receiving complaints police immediately took action by reviewing CCTV footage from the area and identified a young man discharging his weapon.
Based on the gathered intelligence, law enforcement conducted raids to apprehend Taifuddin, who initially evaded capture. In a significant move, the police formed ten specialized teams to locate the accused. Both Taifuddin and Mohd. Kaleem were ultimately arrested on February 10th.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Lal Umed Singh confirmed that both the accused were arrested and booked under Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
