In an interesting case, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has complained to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against its own officer whom they suspect may have engaged a dummy to write the Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level Exam (SSC-CGLE) 2022 on his behalf.
According to the CBI, a communication was received from the NCB's assistant director (vigilance), raising doubt that Karamjit Singh, who is currently posted as a sub-inspector at the NCB headquarters, resorted to malpractice during his selection process. According to a source, Singh, a Haryana resident, came under the scanner after the anti-drugs agency received discreet information, spilling the beans on Singh. Currently, he is undergoing a basic induction course at Central Academy for Police Training (CAPT), Bhopal.
“As per the NCB's information, there is doubt that the person selected through the exam is not the one who has joined promotional/induction training,” said a CBI officer. According to a preliminary inquiry by the NCB's Bhopal zone unit, there exists reason to believe that Singh may have engaged a dummy to appear for SSC-CGLE 2022 on his behalf, the officer added.
He further said that in June 2024 when Singh was undergoing the induction training in Bhopal, a secret information was received, which raised doubt that the person selected through the exam and the individual joining the NCB are different.
An officer from the NCB, Bhopal, probed the matter and submitted a report on June 24, 2024.“The report stated that the photographs captured separately during the SSC-CGLE 2022 and the document verification appears conspicuously different vis-a-vis the actual appearance of the subject,” the officer said. Also, the handwriting on the exam's admit card does not match with that of the texts written by Singh while undergoing training at the CAPT, the report pointed out.
“Thus, due to the (suspected) angle of forgery as well as involvement of a non-government person in the exam, it has been decided by the competent authority that this case shall be handed over to CBI for investigation,” read the NCB's complaint to the CBI.
