To raise awareness about environmental conservation among students, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) organized a session on ‘Climate Change Literacy’

The session  conducted under the 'Environmental Hour' initiative was held at KLE College on February 6 as part of its Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan 5.0.

With initiatives like Environmental Hour, the Panvel Municipal Corporation aims to foster environmental consciousness among students and encourage them to take active roles in protecting and conserving natural resources,” said the Municipal commissioner Mangesh Chithale.

PMC is visiting various schools and colleges as part of the environment hour. The program involves various activities such as workshops, lectures, competitions, tree plantation drives, quizzes, and group discussions focusing on the five key elements of the Majhi Vasundhara AbhiyanSky, Water, Air, Land, and Fire.

During the session at KLE College, discussions were held on pressing environmental issues. One of the key topics was the impact of deforestation on climate change, where students explored how large-scale tree-cutting contributes to global warming and environmental degradation. “Another significant discussion revolved around the possibility of achieving a zero-waste lifestyle. Students deliberated on practical measures that individuals and communities can adopt to reduce waste and promote sustainability,” informed the official.

The role of technology in addressing environmental challenges was also examined, with participants analyzing how advancements in science and innovation can be used to combat pollution, deforestation, and climate change.

Additionally, the importance of both individual and collective responsibility in environmental conservation was emphasized. “ The discussions encouraged students to take proactive steps in their daily lives to contribute to sustainability. Another major topic was water conservation and the urgent need for sustainable solutions to preserve this essential resource for future generations,” said the official.

Towards the end of the session, students took Majhi Vasundhara pledge, committing themselves to practices that promote sustainability and ecological balance.

The event witnessed the participation of key figures from KLE College, including Principal Dr. Vijay Mendhulkar, NSS Program Officers Sheetal Gharge and Vishal Chavariya, along with NSS members Shubhangi Sapkal, Madhavi Joshi, and Riya Mehtar. Their involvement played a crucial role in facilitating the discussions and ensuring the program's success
