The Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) has launched an Online Smart Card Scheme for senior citizens, enabling them to apply for free bus travel passes digitally. Announced by NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde on the occasion of NMMT’s 29th anniversary, this initiative aims to simplify the application process for elderly commuters.
Earlier, senior citizens had to visit the nearest NMMT pass center or the Turbhe depot to submit documents and obtain their Smart Card. With this new online facility available on the NMMT Bus Tracker App, they can now complete the entire process from home.
To apply, senior citizens need to fill out the online form, upload the required documents, and pay a Rs 50/- fee. The Smart Card will then be sent via post.
The transport administration has urged maximum participation from senior citizens in Navi Mumbai to take advantage of this scheme for hassle-free bus travel.
“It is indeed a very good initiative for people like us who do not get time to go to the depot for getting the card made as we work as watchman in the society. With this being made available through app, it will be now convenient. I commute daily from Ulwe to Nerul for work and now I can travel free using NMMT,” Manohar Shinde, a 62 year old watchman said.
