Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is set to begin his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. As per a report in the Times of India, the 31-year-old pacer recently underwent scans for his back injury under the supervision of the BCCI medical team. After reviewing the results, it has been decided that Bumrah will resume light physical activities, including gym workouts and light bowling, within the next 24 to 48 hours.

The BCCI is taking a cautious approach regarding his return and will monitor his progress before deciding on his participation in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which begins on February 19. Teams have the option to make changes to their provisional squad until February 11.

Source close to the development told The Times of India, “Even if there is a 1% chance, the BCCI is likely to wait. They did the same with Hardik Pandya as they waited for close to two weeks before getting Prasidh Krishna as a replacement. Even when Shubman Gill was down with dengue, they didn’t have any thoughts of looking for a replacement. Yes those two incidents happened during the campaign but approach with Bumrah could well be no different. This is just the deadline to submit the squad and they could approach the Event Technical Committee at a later stage to seek a replacement if he fails to regain fitness,”

Will Jasprit Bumrah play Champions Trophy

Bumrah played all five Tests in India’s recent series against Australia, taking 32 wickets. However, he did not bowl in the second innings of the final Test in Sydney due to a back spasm. Upon returning to India, he was advised to rest for five weeks.

His last ODI for India was in the World Cup 2023 final against Australia in Ahmedabad on November 19, where he took two wickets. His most recent white-ball match was the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa in Barbados on June 29.
