Jhabua (Madhya Pradesh): As the town gears up to celebrate love, gift shops are rolling out the red carpet for shoppers ahead of Valentine’s Day on February 14. In sync with the V-Day, their décor is in red and soft toys, particularly teddy bears, cutouts of hearts, flowers and chocolates of different brands are flying off the shelves fast.

The festivities began with Rose Day on February 7, followed by Propose Day on February 8. Sunday marks Chocolate Day and the celebrations will continue with Teddy Day, Promise Day, Hug Day and Kiss Day, culminating in Valentine’s Day on February 14.

The local markets are sporting a festive look, displaying cutouts of red and pink hearts, ribbons, roses, heart shaped balloons, bouquets, lights and romantic music playing in the background, all creating an ideal environment for the V-day.

Patel Gift House owner Piyush Patel said that there were gifts suitable for all ages and pockets: students, budding lovers, those whose love had blossomed, engaged couples, newlyweds and even old couples, as love had no age bar.

Despite some opposition from Hindu organisations who view these celebrations as contrary to Indian traditions, many young couples and newlyweds are eager to express their love through innovative gifts. The modern age has also seen a shift towards social media, where many people express their feelings and celebrate online.
